We were recently called out to assist a customer in need of a replacement car key for a 2015 Vauxhall Adam after a DIY repair attempt didn’t quite go as planned.
The owner had tried to save some money by recasing their only working key, which had seen better days. While the intention was good, unfortunately, during the process of transferring the internals to the new case, the circuit board was accidentally damaged. This rendered the key completely unusable — the car wouldn’t start, and the immobiliser system failed to recognise the broken transponder.
With no working key and no way to start the vehicle, the customer gave us a call.
We arrived quickly and assessed the situation. It was clear the original key was beyond repair, but thankfully we carry a full range of Vauxhall remote keys in stock. Using specialist diagnostic tools, we were able to:
✅ Cut a new key blade on-site to match the car’s locks
✅ Program a brand new remote key directly into the car’s ECU
✅ Test the new key thoroughly, ensuring full functionality of remote locking, immobiliser recognition, and engine start
Within a short time, the customer had a fully working remote key, and the car was back on the road.
This job serves as a useful reminder that while DIY repairs can sometimes work, they also come with a risk—especially when dealing with modern car key electronics. If you’ve got a worn or broken key, it’s always best to speak to a professional.
